Approximately 12% of U.S. computer households own an Apple (AAPL) computer, up from 9% in 2008, according to the results of a survey released Monday morning by the NPD group.

But here's the kicker: the vast majority - 85% - also own at least one PC running Microsoft (MSFT) Windows.

More than 2,300 NPD panelists completed the survey. Among its other findings:
  • Mac owners are richer. 36% have household incomes greater than $100,000, compared with 21% of all U.S. consumers.
  • Mac households are more mobile. 72% own a notebook computer, compared with 50% of Windows PC households.
  • Mac users have more iPods. 63% own an iPod, compared with 36% of all computer-owning households
  • Nearly 50% of Mac households own some kind of electronic navigation system, compared with 30% of all computer-owning households.
  • In general, Mac users own a lot more gadgets. The average Apple household owns 48 consumer electronic devices, compared with an average of 24 in all computer-owning households. (See chart below.)

Interesting stats, but somehow I'm a bit surprised. We all know that MAC users are general wealthier than the rest. Rich people think MAC's are the cream of the crop, but they have no idea. They think owning a MAC is a sign of social status, and ultimately, they're somewhat right because you have to be a lil more than comfortable to buy one of those MAC BOOK PROs. So until Apple lowers their products' pricing, MACs are seen as that, social status.

iPods have been social status for a long time too, now they're so cheap I think most everyone just buys ipods without considering the other options

That proves that iPods release neurotoxins that affect how common people percept Mac products. Buying an iPod gives you the urge to buy Mac products. This is also true for otherwise.

I think it has to do with Mac looking too awesome for them that when they look back to windows, compares it flamingly and proving his point by saying "I used windows before"

I find OSX to be the daily use OS and Windows to be the one I boot only for games,

Obviously if all these mac owners have Windows as well, then OS X cannot do everything they need or want ;)

Take it easy...

OSX is just another OS. It is not a religion (yet ;) )

Obvious for hardcore gaming you have to use a windows license.
