YeoWorks Reference v1.0 (Beta 3)

First I would like to thank everyone for downloading YeoWorks Reference (Beta 2).
So far, YeoWorks Reference (Beta 2) has received 1100+ downloads!

Way more than I was expecting for my beta.

Thank You!

Now, back to YeoWorks Reference v1.0 (Beta 3).

A lot has changed and been improved.

Here are all the updates so far:

  • YeoWorks Reference is now developed under C#.
  • The User Interface now is Ribbon styled.
  • YeoWorks Reference v1.0 (Beta 3) will be working with a database! So, finding rhyming words and other things are now possible.
  • Improved Functionality
  • Improved Built-in Apps
  • New Word like Document Editor instead of the notes app.
  • More References have been added as well.
  • Image Search and a few others will make an introduction in this release.
and more..

This development will take more time, so I'm planning on releasing an Beta 2.5 if it does take to long with the database.

Here's a snippet screen shot of Beta 3 with the new logo in the ribbon and how it will look:

Very nice looking!

The database will be a major feature!

What ribbon are you using? Like, from what developer. The reason I ask is because I can never seem to find one I'm satisfied with.

Overall, looks like a major upgrade from the previous beta!

When did you pick up the office 07 look yanike?

You should try to glass the ribbon over, actually that would affect XP users if they have a dark theme...

You need a new logo IMO something that stands out more, like a Book or something (thinking reference)

One more point, I like how beta 2 was usable as a small window. You should try to shrink the ribbon down a little since Office is really hard to use as a floating window.

The first new design I had was awesome and used Aero. I went with the ribbon look, because of XP and other reasons.

Beta 3 will be usable as a floating window. When I develop, I develop apps in floating view instead of maximized view.

As far as the logo goes, I'm going with something simple and professional. It's still in beta, so I still have plenty of time to fix it up. I don't know if you remember, but the first icon was a book. I was thinking about paying a graphic designer on here some money to draw up one.

Can you post a guide on Ribbon UI?
Do you use this?

No. The Ribbon I use you have to pay a pricey license to use. Sorry, I'm not going to be posting any guides or links to ribbon.

Good luck Albz!

Thank You. Developing in C# is great and working with Ribbon is so much easier to fit in new features :)

This stuck with me for a while. I really love the ribbon, but it is a little bulky as an small window. So, I decided to stick with my original look and work the Word features and more into it. The basic Notes app is now advanced and will have more features than before.

Now you can source your reference and copy & paste web browser text containing links into Notes.
Just click on a text or link to open it in a new tab :D
Yes, the default text size of Notes is a little bit bigger than before.

As you can see, the new second bar in Notes is going to have all Word features I was going to put into the ribbon build.

Also, I'm working on a drag and drop from browser to Notes image feature to make images resize, so they are not to big in your notes, but still keep their full detail when sent to your Word App.

Like I said before, I will be messing with the database and finding ways to include it in.

I'm going to save the ribbon for the 2nd official release of YeoWorks Reference, which I have lots of features planned that will no doubt need the ribbon.

For those wanting to see a screen shot of the ribbon build in the works, here you go :P

I will explain the Premium features later after the 1st official build is released down the line. Also, don't read into the screen shot too much. Some features shown will be gone, because some came with this premium ribbon and I haven't really got around to removing them yet.

Looks very nice! It's coming along nicely!

Maybe have a lite version go along with the official release? It looks like the ribbon will make it almost have to be constantly maximized.

I thought about a light version, but scratched that idea. Even though I'm working on the ribbon, I've drawn a new design that's better but haven't developed it yet. It works like the ribbon, but doesn't look anything like it. I've also got a hold of the Windows 7 ribbon :P Very nice, but I think I might role with my own custom design.

The scenic ribbon? Like, the paint, wordpad, etc? I haven't seen that for developer's use yet.. link?
