Gimp is nice, but I still believe personally that its got a long way to go before it will compete with the powerhouse of PhotoShop.
Name a few examples beside CMYK-Support (which should be fully supported by Gimp 2.8)
Like I said its personal reasons, I absolutely hate the gimp interface. I like everything in one window natively. The CMYK support was the other big thing, if they support it in the next version, I'll give it a try. I do have gimp installed and I do use it occasionally, but my wife loves it. Also the fact that PhotoShop has a huge support base and I love the Adobe CS. I don't know why, but every time I've ever used Gimp I felt like I was using something similar to MSPaint. I know that's not a fair comparison. I know it has much more functionality than that. But thats the FEEL I get when I use Gimp.
Good thing i turned your wife on to the gimp then. go to my dA page (
http://solo-dev.deviantart.com) and find Gimp Grouper. With the exception of the toolbox window, it tames the art windows, puts them in to a multi-tab window, like how firefox does. The gimp on Tabs, basically.
I got tired of people whining about having to many windows open (I guess they never saw Visual basic 3 and 4 then...) so i made that.
Downloading 2.7 now, it will be interesting to see what is new.
And honestly, I done like photoshop because it seems like they shoved the kitchen sink in there, and it seems poorly organized to me.
but to each there own. Happy Gimping!
