I don't like the toolbar buttons but I'm happy to see the menubar gone.

Better if anyhow the titlebar could also be made hidden (optionally) like Chrome.

What's the big deal???

You can have that exact look even under Windows XP today.

Just load TrueTransparency... you don't need to wait for another two Firefox updates just to have transparent borders

the Aero skin looks fking epic.

Too bad the XP ones look rather bad and chrome-ish. They should keep the colorful buttons, especially for the XP skins. You know, the iconic green back button.

The aero skin is fine just the way it is, but yeah. It could do with the colors back in place. That, and it's SOLD.

Still, overall, god. Gj Mozilla. Gotta give hats off to them.

Actually, the more I think of it... it looks like Opera or Chrome. Really, look at Opera 9/10 and then look at this. Almost identical.

You are right. TrueTransparency only makes the outside border transparent, not the whole menus, toolbars and tabs. I apologize!

WOW! I feel stupid!

Firefox 4.0 Mockups

Tabs on bottom:

Tabs on top:

Posted Image

Positives

  • Save Vertical Space
  • Efficiency/Remove Visual Complexity - Right now the tabs have to be connected to something. So we are adding an extra visual element for them to connect to.
  • Shorter Mouse Distance to Page Controls
Negatives

  • Breaks Consistency/Familiarity - Moving things confuses existing users.
  • Title is MIA - With the space removed from the titlebar you only get the truncated version in the tab.
  • Longer Mouse Distance to Tabs - Takes longer to mouse to a tab.
  • Lost Space - Sandwiched in between the application icon and the window widgets you lose some space.

Combo Stop/Refresh/Go Button

Posted Image
Attached at the end of the location bar.
  • Turns green when you start typing.
  • Blends with the location bar when at rest.
  • Turns blue on hover.
  • Turns red when a page is loading.
