Well, it worked for me. The problem is, the service won't start when you restart your computer. So before you change your theme, og in and enable the service. Then go in and change your theme. The reason why the service won't start.. I have no idea. But the service itself achieves the objective. I'm still looking through the service trying to find the problem.. if anyone can help me about that, then pretty much the problems are gone.

start > run services.msc.
scroll down to "unsignedthemes" and click on it / double clikc on it. you should see an option for "autostart" enable it.

now it starts up when you log in.

Thank you! :)

I think "Allow service to interact with desktop" has to be checked right? And startup type is set to Automatic for me.

Is it a problem if I don't have that option? Unsigned themes, that is.

I had that problem. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

Hopefully Microsoft will release a package so groups can develop and release their own _signed_ (even by a self-cert or a simple app-store style subscription certificate) themes. I am already seeing unsigned or hand-patched executable replacement themes over on DeviantArt for Windows7, and so likely if MS were to put out a good method, SDK, and certificate signing authority, people all over could make wonderful (and boring) themes and actually have some real trace of where all the parts came from.
Until then, I do like the ideas behind UxStyle and hope they get a functional and working patch done up when the final RTM and official release versions hit. I'm excited to see a full GUI for it and think this could essentially be a great modders tool. Heck, I could see specialty computer companies (DogHouse Systems, Falcon, etc) possibly licensing or using the code and building themes out for themselves to have on their machine releases. For those of you who haven't gotten and tried out the Windows 7 RC, I don't know what you are waiting for. It is free for the time being, and they have said they will at least keep it up and free to download through June. Grab it while it is still available and give it a test run: http://tinyurl.com/832nco

The program. It can be found in Add/Remove or Uninstall a Program in 7. Then just reinstall it. That's what did it for me.

If the patch does not start automatically, run these in command prompt:

sc config uxpatch group= "File System"
sc config UnsignedThemes group= UIGroup

Spaces and EVERTHING. Do not alter this at all. If that does not work, open regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\UnsignedThemes. Create a new String and call it Group, then give it a data value of UIGroup. Then reboot.

I did all of this just to be sure.

I am running 7 build 7201. I got all of this info from here & here

Thanks for the release. I had a patched Se7en (with Ultimate themes patcher or something) so I unpatched the dlls, installed this, and set the theme back to default aero (just in case) before restarting. Then after restarting , I noticed absolutely nothing. (There is a process running in the background). I tried Aero Hillux and it works and i should add quite nicely :) The process seldom goes over 404 kiB. I think the release is flawless though I've only been testing it for a couple of days. Thanks, once again, Rafael.

I installed this on my old winXP box and ran flawlessly, I bought a Win7 (Home Premium) x64 laptop in March and it ran fine too... today I tried running a new Theme from Control Panel (Personalization) and all I got was "Classic" from 3rd party themes.

I had to uninstall/reinstall as suggested and it works again but Its been a while since uxcore has been updated,UXcore still shows as a Beta in Control Panels Programs whats going on? Has this been abandoned?
