[SC] StartService: OpenService FAILED 1060:
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
and i have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. no dice.
I did what CommonSense did, and it works now. works like a charm! cool!
Are you on Windows XP too? We'll need to focus on this back at the shop. Thanks for testing.

No problem. This is the future of Windows customization, so it must be perfect on all platforms.

If you are using Rafael's patched uxtheme.dll file then replace it with the original file. I hope you have the original file backed up.

I'm using build 7201 and it works fine for me.Man, I love this. You started out with patches using .dlls, and now you've actually made an unsigned process for it. I've downloaded it, installed it, works like a charm. I just have one question. Will this work for any build of Windows 7 RC, like build 7229? I'm using 7100, so I don't know, but I'd really like to know so that I can upgrade. I've always used the things that you make, Rafael, and never once have you failed to reach and jump beyond the objective given.

Yeah I think in the install notes, it says something that this is only the Core things needed to run. The release will have a UI and other options, I believe.so what will be the difference between this Core version, and the retail version? the retail will have a UI?
Villain, is that one of your cats?

Thanks, appreciate it! Glad it works for you
Thank you.
EDIT: Now I'm having some other issue. ****. I've got the service enabled, yet the Ribbon theme fails to show me any changes. Either the ribbon theme has no changes evident, or the patch is failing for me. Any help?
The Ribbon theme author make a hard-coded assumption that the theme is installed in \Windows\Resources\Themes. Check the .theme for details.

UxStyle Core - Minimal code needed to enable third-party themes.
UxStyle Core "Bundle" - Same as above, plus a theme manager developed by a yet-to-be-announced partner. Naming isn't final.
Both will be free.

Did you reboot before you enabled the theme?

I opened it up in notepad and observed that, but that assumption is true for my case. I did indeed place my folder in the %WinDir%\Resources\Themes folder.
Thank you.

Yes, I did indeed reboot before I enabled the theme.

Click the start button and type in cmd into the search area at the bottom. Then type or copy/paste "sc start UnsignedThemes" without the quotation marks and hit enter. Then apply the Ribbon Theme.Um, I installed the Ribbon theme without restarting and it worked perfectly. I restarted to make sure it UxStyle Core installed properly. I booted into 7 and it had the ugly classic windows look. I then used the Aero theme and it worked, but Ribbon did not anymore. This happened after I restarted.
