Even now, it's hard to think of a single killer app that makes DX10 look any better than the huge swathe of DX9 games. This is why there are still plenty of people out there who are running their games under Windows XP. Add Windows 7 into the mix and you now have a three-way fight for your gaming attentions. But which one should you have running on your main gaming rig?

The reliable Windows XP, the pretty but oft-maligned Vista or the new kid on the block who hasn't even earned his racing wheels yet? TechRadar UK put these operating systems to the test on a suite of benchmarks and see which one impresses us the most.

Games Tested:
GRID

Isn't it a bit early to be judging gaming performance?

It's all jumbled. Theres not really 'that big' of a difference between the three. Gaming on whatever OS would be up to what the user does to the OS; keep it clean or install 19203845315 programs.

Mostly hardware, of course ;) . As long as you have good hardware, the OS doesn't matter one bit.

it looks like windows 7 is really the running replacement for people who like windows XP, but knows that's it's old and outdated.

i think so... comparing win 7 may give the outline for preview purpose, but not certainly final.

Keep in mind that games are not even recommended to be run on Windows 7 yet.

The drivers are still in Beta etc.

Wait for 64bit Windows 7 RTM.
I will switch to it once Windows 7 hits SP1.

You really do not need to wait so long. I am working on windows 7 since beta and I love it :) (by working I mean I am using it as my main system on my pc). It's stable and it works like a charm. Vista drivers works fine. It's working so good that I have installed it on my mobile also. The best think is that windows seven downloads drivers automatically and this particular feature works 100 times better then in vista (in 99% of cases you can forget about drivers).

7 is awesome minus the fact that it can't run half my games, therefore I am sticking with XP until then.

It makes me sad but once they fix that, I'll be back on 7 in no time.
