Microsoft's assault on Apple is continuing, as the software maker is ready with the third in its "Laptop Hunter" series of Windows ads.
This time it's a mom and kid in search of an entertainment notebook. Guess, what? They go with a PC--a Sony this time. And, instead of going to Fry's, they hit Best Buy.
Otherwise, it's pretty much the same thread as the earlier spots, though this time Microsoft once again plays the kid card.
Microsoft had said when it launched the "Lauren" spot that there would be several ads along the same theme.
The new spot comes just as the company has made its latest "Apple Tax" claim online, an argument I argue overstates their case.
I'm sure the new ad will be on TV soon, but here it is via YouTube.

I actually like the new adverts from Microsoft, but i don't know why they are gearing towards a laptop dominant market.

I'll agree, Vaio's are nice, but I'll stick with HP anyday. I would of loved the HP HDX in the previous ad. That or a Touchsmart.

I really love these ads. "Get a Mac" ads were annoying as hell!

Have no sound here at work. But the face the woman makes when looking at the mac (yuk!) is funny (0:29).

Think the laptop market is booming busisness and the segment where ms has the most competition from apple, also vista has not made the best impact in laptops. Funny detail is that they are not actually promoting windows (vista) but window machines :). And using the price tag as limiting factor in every advertisement is really effective against the competition (apple).

I think they have worked out a smart advertising strategy: using normal/real people in real situations...

These adverts are cool... however:

Go to an Apple Store, MS are making it WAY too bias!

Spend Less Than $1500? Simple
1) http://store.apple.c...family/mac_mini
In my case, for the best Mac, I got it for $1,345.00 (include mouse and keyboard)
Powerful enough to run what those people need

2) Buy a 2nd Hand Screen
C'mon you could probaby snag one for $100

3) WIN!

So Im not an Apple Person (I'm very Win7 :P) but I have a Mac Mini running Win7 :P
Anyway my point is... MS, start targeting the tower PC's and stop being BIAS!

Ok... I'll walk away now

Offcourse MS is biased, you can hardly expect them to promote apple :D

Why put money in tower pc commercials? To compete with Mac Pro? I dont think so ;)

And I if the requirement is 17" display: apple has nothing to offer in the required price range.

He wants to play GAMES. Unable to on a mac. Now go and use bootcamp, not very friendly for end users like them. They'll also need to buy a Windows OS, and end up going over the limit. Now f**k that idea, and go and get a native PC. You can play GAMES on it. You don't have to go and dink around with bootcamp.

Sounds like a war brewing :P
Borix: Thats why I said 2nd Hand, and it does not have to be a Mac screen, I'm using a LG 26" :P
Bootcamp was simple to do... even my mum did that! :P
Unable to play games on a mac... well lets compare my laptop to this mac:
Windows Native Laptop - Cost me £699
Processor (Intel Duo Core 2.0): 5.0
Memory (3GB DDR2): 5.0
Graphics: (nvidia GeForce 9200M GE 256mb): 3.5
Gaming Graphics: 4.1
HDD: 5.6
Mac Mini - Cost me £507.10
Processor: 5.4
Memory (2GB DDR3): 5.5
Graphics (nvidia GeForce 9400): 5.3
Gaming Graphics: 4.4
HDD: 5.3
So its a 3.5 vs 4.4
Mac Wins! :P
Note: Both machines are running Windows 7 Build 7077

Anyway... very true TaeX :P

They still would have to have to buy a MS license thats all MS cares about anyways. And whats the point of buying a MAC if your going to use Windows the majority of the time.

This ad is better than the previous ones, the only problem with Lauren's ad was that she never entered the apple store:
