People are still downloading the recently leaked Windows 7 build 7077 but some reports indicate that Microsoft has built 7078.0.090406-1758 and 7079.0.090407-1902 in the last few days.

It is being told that nothing new would be added in Windows 7 for now. Microsoft can release Windows 7 RC in May and the build number would be 71xx (may be build 7105).

Wow, those builds are released fast. Still 7077 was disappointing considering almost nothing was changed, 7079 doesn't seem to be much better either.

Don't expect too much, you'll be less disappointed that way..always :)
If you understand that these builds are the RC-Escrow builds, you should know that there won't be any major changes from the earlier builds, since in Escrow stage, coding is almost halted, and concentration is towards 'show-stopper' bugs and performance.

Yeah but this is ridiculous - releasing a new build just for slightly rounded taskbar buttons.
I always wondered why beta testing cant be based on patches, just microsoft doesn't want anyone to patch their beta up to RTM

You don't have to download them :P

I don't think Microsoft is intentionally releasing all these betas.

Hmmm the build 7057 was very disappointing for me cause my whole system was very very slow....
but after i installed the 7077 i can see the difference between those two builds.

Although it does not has much visual changes (only the taskbar buttons) i like the smootheness of using it now. :)

Well...there is a lot more than it meets the eye...
For you, it might just be the 'slightly rounded corners', but there is a lot more than that behind the looks...
These are internal builds, compiled and used for testing everyday when even the slightest changes are made to the code, and the main things taken into consideration at these stages are the performance and regression, that is, the performance should be better, and there should be negligible regression as compared to the previous builds.
As for your point regarding why it can't be based on patches, it is because the RTM stage has not yet been achieved, and so there are so many deviations and chances of earlier code being buggy, or it not performing as per the expectations when some modifications are done, and for pre-release builds, this happens almost everyday.

Lastly, if you noticed, this build (7077) has significantly lesser file size than the previous builds, indicating that there has been come change in the code, so that might answer your question of a newer build just for 'slightly rounded corners'.
