After facing pressure by Google, Mozilla, and most notably, Opera, and the EU itself to include an uninstaller for IE, Microsoft has apparently complied. Paul Thurrott writes that IE is removable in build 7048 of Windows 7.
Under Add and Remove Windows Features in the control panel, there is an option to remove IE 8, and according to some comments left on the page, IE 8 is completely removable not just hidden. The rendering engine is left in place for apps that depend on it, otherwise it is gone should you choose to remove it.
Good job guys. I personally prefer to have IE installed, but this is a step in the right direction. It certainly a hamper on the EU case.

Full Ack!
As far as I read this just deactivates the IE but it can't uninstall it. I'm pretty shure this isn't what the eu wanted and they won't be satisfied with it

will this mean that windows update will work with other browsers?
Vista and Win 7 don't use browser based update

They can't remove it completely, otherwise ALOT of apps will break.
