This alpha was released so we can get the bugs of the base code out before pileing on the features. We have found a lot of bugs and have fixed many of them already. It runs in Windows 7, Vista, and XP, both 32-bit and 64-bit.
I would compare this to Windows 7 M1 (as in the leaked 6519 build). What was new? A few things were moved, a couple of apps bundled, and they made a couple things look different. It was just a start.

We had been told by our single developer back then that we would have a build for February. We think he might have died.http://www.cairoshel...testing-signup/

Development actually started in June 2008 and heavy development didn't really even start until September. This is very alpha and has next to no features of what we plan for 1.0. The alpha includes more than "just a menu." We have currently implemented the menubar, stacks alternative, system tray, clock/calendar, search, programs menu, and taskbar.

September, you still should have been well past this point.
And FYI, it DOES NOT WORK in Vista 64-Bit.
It doesn't even start.
In Windows 7 64-Bit it crashes after you open ANYTHING
In Windows 7 32-Bit it works(ish) but the task thing is unuseable.
I cannot see anyone getting used to this, you really need to fix it or start from scratch.
And at least Windows 7 M1 worked.

Cairo does work, and like I said, it is very buggy. If this were indeed a beta, then yes I would understand your being disappointed. This is an ALPHA, the FIRST step in the process. We have fixed all of the crash bugs internally and will be releasing another M1 build soon. Most of the crashes have indeed been happening at initialization.

We have had many, many reports of it working just fine on Vista, XP, and 7 64-bit installs. You have just happened to hit a (now fixed) bug.

Clearly you have n interest in Cairo, so I'll take this as your loss and move on.I still see vaporware.
and it doesnt work on 64-bit vista.
and its compleltly unusabbe on windows 7
also, damn the windows taks list... its f**kign shitty, seriously, im not talking about bug or perfomance wise, but feature wise, its not useable.

I HAD interest in cairo, but i've lost it now after this.
I will continue trying it... but as long as that window tasking feature is there, it is rendered useless to me.
It was meant to be a private alpha for a reason.
It's completely fine if you don't feel it's useable, as its not done.
But calling it Vaporware even after you have a bare bones functional alpha is like calling a new house with no guts and furniture non-existent.
It's physically there, and while it can't be fully used for what it's intended for, its there, and does serve a purpose.

I can understand how it is to be doing a big project with just one developer ... i do it all the time. and yeah, it aint easy. but then again, while i like sharing the app, i hate sharing my code.
If Cario is for any .net version that 2, then your making a mistake. no one wants to download 15 Mb worth of runtimes just for one app. Because Vista has 2.0 integrated naturally, use that.
just my 2cents.
