Not sure if you guys have ever heard of a nice little extension called MCE Browser, but it is an extension to Media Center for XP/Vista where you can browse the Internet through the Media Center. Okay we all know how pointless that is. But the great thing is the ability to browse the Internet on the 360!

If you have your 360 Media Center Enabled then it's really easy. After installing MCE Browser on the PC, just go to Online Media>Program Library>Browser. I'm on WinMatrix with it right now (not typing this though that would be way too hard). Also, you can type by pressing Y. Maybe the Messenger Accessory works as a keyboard? Have fun! Now all those PS3 and Wii owners can't say they are the only ones with a browser ;)

MCE Browser download

Also, the 360 has to be connected to the Internet in some way.

Another thing, it's hard to navigate through pages and Google comes up with a script error every time. It's not an official browser so don't have high expectations.

Here is the original's author's website: Anthony Park

Found some controls:
Right Stick (after selecting the page) is used to move up and down
D-Pad; left and right, moves the page left and right
D-Pad; up and down, selects hyperlinks
Y button brings up the keyboard
A button selects whatever is selected
B button deselects the page so you can select back/forward/enter url/etc

DOES NOT PLAY FLASH VIDEO! To my knowledge you cannot play Flash videos. But if anyone can try any video formats that are compatible with the 360 than please post (like WMV, MPEG4, etc) :(

PS3's is a fully-fledged browser compatible with 9/10 sites. Built in Firewall, Tabbed, Ingognito Mode, Skinnable and on top of all that it scores higher than IE8 on the Acid3 test, it scores 26/100 and thats incredible considering its a console browser!

Can consoles get viruses?

Theorectically, yes. We just haven't seen any yet, the inbuilt firewall for the PS3 browser is to mainly protect from attackers and Phishing sites, oh and it works as a parental control aswell if you want it to, ie it blocks porn sites etc. P.S I wrote this all on my PS3 :P

Maybe if enough people e-mail MS the 360 could get a browser. It's a longshot but who knows. Wow I just searched the XBL Forums and found a lot of arguments for this. Like this one.

The 360 needs a browser but it also needs high quality protection. I want a full-fledged browser that can play flash games and flash videos, as well as protection from hackers and attacks. It already has built in Parental Controls, so that couldn't be hard to integrate :D

They could have added a browser when NXE was released. What a bunch of idiots.

I agree, a browser on a next-gen console is a must. IMO 360 should have shipped with IE6.

Exactly. And now that they know that their competition have browsers they should definitely add one.

The Thing i don't like is that you need to turn on a PC to link the media center to Xbox before you can use the browser.

I like to see a browser that connects directly to internet via the wireless adaptor (or wired ethernet) same way as PS3. without having to turn on a PC.

i have done all of this already, i don't have a keypad on my 360 controller, but i do have a wireless keyboard allthough, the browser is up and running, and i go to enter a URL and once i do, i cannot delete what i wrote if i made a mistake. I happend to make it to facebook on my browser on 360 and when i went to sign into my facebook account where it says "e-mail" i enter the text of my e-mail and then it says "e-mail*******@hotmail.com and im able to place a password but im not able to sign in since i cannot delete the "e-mail" part. Honestly if you can't delete words and then have to start from scratch basicly, im thinking this browser is a piece of sh!t on xbox 360. I really hope some day in the future they will provide a much better browser to use on xbox 360 where it has a mouse feature you can use on the controller much like PS3's browser. on the 360 browser i can't even watch youtube yet i can on PS3. PS3 also allows me to delete letters or words if i made a spelling error. im not impressed with this browser on the xbox 360. im a big fan of the system it'self and the games they offer for it, but i can do so much more with a PS3 then i can with an xbox 360 when it comes to the internet. Microsoft is just so caught up in competing with Apple, that they don't even think to compete with Sony and make updates to the system to have a browser you don't get frustrated with.
