Hi everyone,

today, I and my brother are releasing a new freeware image editor, called Paint.COM :woot:

Attached File  paint_com.jpg (8.14K)
Number of downloads: 263

It supports many of the things you may miss in Paint.NET like:

* layers with assigned effects
* gamma-aware blending
* sub-pixel accuracy
* smooth zoom-in
* compatibility with Photoshop plug-ins
* and much more...

Download from: http://www.rw-design...om/image-editor

Enjoy,
V.

Looks good but you could have an original name. What's next, Paint.ORG? :D

:D It's intentional. And coincidentally, it si build upon the good old COM (Component Object Model) technology. I am actually a .net skeptic and still consider it immature. Microsoft themselves still do not use it to build Office or Windows.

WOW! I can definitely use this :)

Already created some transparent logos with it.

Love the effects and ease of use.

Question... Where is the Pointer and Grab tool?

Hmmmm, I am actually not sure what should those tools do. From what software do you know them?

If you are talking about a tool that allows panning when the whole image does not fit the screen, then you can pan with middle (or back) mouse buttons regardless of the selected tool.

If you want to show control handles for a shape drawn earlier, then I am afraid that is not possible. The control handles are only available for the shape currently being added. It is not a vector editor (yet?).

Yeah. That's exactly what I was looking for. Can't wait until it is one :)

I can really put this into use making icons and more.

Vector-like layers are in the long term plan, but it may really take long, it is not an easy thing... Then again, it may not, I have one ace up sleeve ;-).

easier to get some effects than thru Paint.NET.....so yeah I like ur app.

u cud have easily brought down the size - just run all those dlls thru UPX once - and also u shud think about a portable version - I already have the portable version running here - so u shud think about releasing a "official" portable version too.

I love this app. Good work ! It deserves a mention on the frontpage. :yes:

Thanks for the suggestions (to you and all others, who have posted a reply before), I'll have a look on UPX.

Regarding the portability. It works relatively good, but there is a small thing that could use fixing before I'll make an official portable version. It should store configuration and recent file list in the application folder. Right now, there are different configurations stored on every computer.

My problem is, I am too stubborn to use ANYTHING other than Photoshop, I am so used to its UI, is there anyway or to set it out like PS? So I find it more natural to use?

Yes and no. The degree of flexibility is relatively high, but you'll need to know a lot about the internal structure of the application to be able to reconfigure it significantly and not everything is possible (for example vertical toolbars are not possible right now). You can have the panels re-arranged, possibly placed in tabs, menu and toolbars can be completely changed... A lot of work, but I can try do it and make an alternative GUI layout available for download, but I need a detailed specification (schematic drawings would be best) how should the windows, menus and toolbars be arranged.

On the other hand, if you work in Photoshop, there is not much to be gained by switching to this app. Maybe faster start and gamma-aware blending. One of the main advantages - simpler user interface - does not apply to you, since you are used to Ps.

Edit: BTW I realize I have mentioned gamma-aware blending again and not many people probably know what I am talking about. Here is more info about it -> http://blog.rw-desig...alworld-photos/
