Nobody came forward to make this poll like last year so I thought to make it myself before the year ends. I prepared a list of all the released games of 2008, took help from different gaming websites including metacritic.com to know how much they scored on reviews and vgchartz.com to know how many copies of these have been sold. Then I shortlisted 30 games out of hundreds of great titles released this year. I'm sorry if your favorite game isn't in the list. I had to exclude many good titles like Mirror's Edge, NHL 09, Wii Fit, Spore, World of Goo, GRID because the thread has to be limited to 10 items per poll.

Please vote for your favorite games and share your experiences. :)

My personal choices:

PC: Fallout 3 is no doubt the most amazing role playing game ever created but I haven't finished it yet I have finished it and it is indeed the best RPG ever made. I excluded GTA IV from my list because of tremendous bugs. It needs a lot of patches to make it worth playing.. After the second patch the game is now playable. I'm still playing it right now. I finished many PC games this year but Far Cry 2 was the game that I enjoyed most.

Consoles: I was not having my Xbox 360 with me for the whole year for some reason but I think I haven't miss anything except for Gears Of War 2. I recently bought PS3 just for MGS4 and it was worth it. The game simply deserves the game of the year award and my vote. I haven't had my hands on Resistense 2 and LittleBigPlanet so can't comment on it. I don't have Wii so can't comment on it's games either.

Handheld: I haven't played much PSP games this year. But out of all the games which I played, I loved Crisis Core the most.

CoD and GTA, although just sequels, are the bomb this year. I swear. I liek, L4D, Fallout3, Mirror's edge, and GRID. I've heard alot about MSG and far cry, but never tried them.

Fallout 3 - 6.5/10 Good game until you complete it, shitty ending, you can't continue with your character after you complete main quest ... which surprised me coz in Oblivion you could. And also there are not 200 endings, only 4, and them 4 still pretty much ended the same, with you unable to play, so it makes little difference.

GTA IV - 10/10 No further comment needed

COD5 - 4.5/10 Hate the fact they went back to WW2, hate the singeplayer, hate the new "zombie mode" its stupid. Waiting for the REAL COD5.

MSG4 - 10/10 See GTA IV comment.

Mass Effect - 9/10 BRILLIANT game, imo much better than Fallout 3.
Alot of things to do and explore, game seems never ending, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Gears of War 2 - 0/10 Biggest POS game ever, along with Gears
I hate it
Its too confusing
Too much shit in your screen
The view is like akward... not 3rd person... its more like 3.5th Person overshoulder view, to me makes it unplayable
Its very repetative, hide behind some shit, shoot, hide behind some shit, run, shoot. Very boring.

GTA IV for PC is great if you can get it working.

MGS4 is ownage.

Had no idea for handheld.

Gears isn't that bad as you are stating. :P In fact I enjoyed it. It was my first game on Xbox 360 and I remember me and my friends used to play it for hours an hours daily.
Over the shoulder shooting is an excellent concept developed by Resident Evil 4, later adopted by Gears of War and Dead Space. It has been enhanced further with the "taking cover", "popping out" and "blind fire", which was the real fun!
I never completed the campaign of the first Gears that's why I'm not missing Gears of War 2, otherwise it is an excellent multiplayer game.

COD5 SP campaign is fun surprisingly even after the change of the developers. But I still prefer Modern Warfare for the multiplayer.

Only played Fallout 3 for a while. It was ...uhm... nice. Where are the good old days when games used to surprise me? It's all so realistic and scripted now. No passion for hidden details.

Then I downloaded Pinball Fantasies and launched DOS box. It's the winner ;-).

I might give GTA a try yet...

hate the new "zombie mode" its stupid.

Left 4 Dead and World at War zombie mode is awesome when playing co-op, but both games have outdated graphics in comparison to the current generation games like Crysis Warhead, Far Cry 2 and Gears Of War 2.

My favourites:
PC: Left 4 Dead, World of Goo
X360: Gears Of War 2, GTA IV, Fable II, Mass Effect
Wii: Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii

COD5 doesn't receive my vote because COD4 is still better online. GTA4 to me is the best all around game.
Hey notice something that all the top exclusive games are for the PS3? :D

If it where up to me, I would have left GTA IV a PS3 exlusive like they did with GTA SA and GTA VC etc.

Although i think both games were ported to xbox around 2004-ish.

PC gaming, anyone?

anyway, left4dead has been criticized for being too simple, and I agree. It's just kill or be killed. It doesn't even have a proper story. L4D might just be Valve's lousiest game. All of valve's other games are kickass though.

COD5 is another lackluster in the COD series, but it isn't THAT bad. It's just not on par with COD4. Hopefully infinity ward would take the development of the game back.

GTAIV rocks. That's all. Hopefully i'd get the PC version up and running one day.

GRID might just be the best racing game of today. To me, GRID is the best looking game of this year, with ultra realistic graphics. If you haven't seen how GRID looks like, you're missing out!

EA is making sure NFS's fanboys suck dick. Sigh. I was looking forward to some serious cop chases an' shit this year.

Mirror's edge is fantastic, and it's another stunning looking game. Problem is, if you've played the demo, you've already played the entire game. So much for removing the shooter element from the first person view. But it's new, and worth a try. A try.
