Ok, so I'm kinda into making video etc. But all the cams I've tried so far give me really low frame rates, or high frame rates with crap quality. <_<

Here are some I've tried:
- ZD Soft Game Recorder (Best I've used at the moment, good quality) www.zdsoft.com/game-recorder/
- Hypercam 1/2 www.hyperionics.com/hc/
- Fraps (Worst everrr) www.fraps.com/download.php
- GameCam www.planetgamecam.com/
- xFire Game Cam www.xfire.com/

All seem to drop my FPS to 20ish.

So what do you think is the best Screen Recorder?

screen FPS is always going to drop. your not only doing something, but recording it, you know how much memory that takes up?
Techsmith Camtasia here, BTW.

ZD Soft only uses about 30MB of RAM.

:D Look at your Computer specs, I wouldn't get frame drops either if I had that beast.

try a webcam, cellphone, video recorder with a tripod and no drop!

i tried fraps and it's way down.
I use hypercam for recording youtube videos before, but sometimes dont work with sounds.

never tried others.

i think there's some firmwares able to record something you do in the monitor (not in the cpu). I have one but nevr tried it.

If your graphics card has a composite out then you could hook it up to an external DVD recorder then rip the DVD when you have finished whatever you are recording

Snagit 9 by Techsmith works the best if u have a good computer. (basically 200-500 mb of ram to spare while playing) very good quality too.

Fraps is quite good but it decreases the FPS by about 10 when recording a game.

Mine drops about 20-30ish, even on lowest quality settings. Not the best corder out there for sure.

So you say that ZD soft recorder is good. Well, I downloaded and installed the free trial from the official site, and AVG reports a Trojan in the main executable. Is this a false positive?

Fraps best.

However, I was only able to record at 60fps only after moving my Nvidia driver to a older (MUCH older) version, so...

Fraps is the best by far. The only that comes close to it is Xfire, but even that is pretty far behind.

Fraps is the BEST (game recorder) out there at the moment hands down. HOWEVER, you need to lower it to 30 FPS (you shouldn't be recording @ higher anyway, youtube are usually 20-30 standard and slightly more for HD) If you do wanna record at 40+ FPS you NEED a more powerful PC obviously. Fraps is for higher end pc's if you want HD.

I know it's been a while, but I'll bump the topic, cause if I google search, this is the first hit.

I'd like people to know, the best game recorder out there, BY FAR. Is playclaw. It actually handles multicores really well and gives me only a minimal FPS drop when gaming. And it is very customizeable.

Note for pirates, it hasn't been cracked yet, at least, only the old version, which sucks. Just buy it, 30 dollars isn't going to skin you alive ;p
