I know that each tab is it's own process that's why there are multiple instances of chrome.exe in my Task Manager but why there are four instances of GoogleUpdate.exe?

Google Chrome is closed, I've killed GoogleUpdate.exe from TaskManager but after every few minutes Zonealarm pops up a warning that GoogleUpdate.exe is trying to access the internet.

I don't want to delete GoogleUpdate.exe

I uninstalled Chrome and installed it through the offline installer again. Now there is a new file named CHROME_UPDAATER.EXE is active.

Google Chrome is trying to launch C:\WINDOWS\system32\expand.exe

GoogleUpdate.exe is still there coz u didnt delete the Google folder from Local app settings folder. Ya the uninstaller doesnt delete it. :(

Chrome_updater.exe ..... mmm...... I dont think the version I have here has that file. Chrome was updated to a new version recently. Maybe this is a new file.

U can use the offline installer which I uploaded to Mediafire in the "offline installer" thread. Not the new-version one from Google.

Or better still is to use the standalone portable I posted here : http://www.winmatrix...showtopic=19901

But don't forget to update it as soon as you install it. Google has patched some Critical Vulnerabilities.

Hi All,

I have just now found a way to delete or schedule the google update.exe. First locate googleupdatetaskuser.exe from the 'Search' tool which can be activated from the 'Start' tool. Googleupdatetaskuser can be located in at C:\WINDOWS\TASKS. Once here open the application and go through the options available for scheduling the update. If one wants to totally remove it, then delete this file. It is possible many antivirus programme will show this as 'malware' once deleted to recycle bin or restored from recycle bin. This can be then completely deleted from recycle bin.

Hope this works!!

You could just open Windows Defender and go to Software Explorer and show Startup Programs and disable it or remove it. =D

That doesn't stop it from coming up again.

^ I think you have to download the installer again to update your browser if you delete Chrome_updater.exe
