Instructions:

1. Copy the .bmp in the attached zip to ur C:\
2. Run "Explorer-Toolbar.bat" file I supplied here.
3. Dont change the name of the bmp
4. Bring up taskmanager. Kill explorer.exe and reload it. Thats it !!
5. And while u are at it Let me know what u think of this : The Dark Aurora UI
6. U can edit the bmp, but keep it in C:\ and dont change the name.

Better Way

Use The Great Solo's app based on this idea. Here is the link.



Extends support to all major image file formats.( except .png )
In the download u will find a setup and a zip archive.
If u dont want to "install" then u can just extract the zip archive to a folder and use ETS.exe from there
However when u move the folder to some other place, remember to apply the background once again.

Cool trick man

I used to use a simple "browse and apply" app for changing the toolbar background in XP. May be you could make a similar app for the XP users here?

Naah !! I dont think its worth doing an app. U can just edit the bat in notepad and change the path to the bmp file to any bmp file u want to use. That will be enough,

oh yeah, support for .bmp, .jpg and .gif also. Originally only .bmp supported. simple LoadPicture > SavePicture converts the selected picture to .bmp. So Animated Gifs wont Animate, sorry yall.

you HAVE to save it to .bmp or .jpg before applying it, imageshack converted it to .png.

yeah, i wanted to get up a mac skin before any one else did, sorry.
but some one can always get a brushed metal one up...

yup, that is it! the app tiles it flawlessly...
for that "vista" look....
again, save as .bmp, or convert it to it.

VistaBlack. If your File Menu labels are black, and you have them arranged at the bottom, then they will seem to be invisible until you mouse over them...
