@myrrdex it's normal. Download visual styles from here or browse the Released Visual Styles forum of WinMatrix.

Hi Secured Tim,

Thanks for the quick reply. So I went to the link, and download the first theme on the page. I unzipped the file and I had .msstyles file. I copied that file to the Resources\Themes\ directory as noted above.

Nothing new became available to me in Display->Themes or Display->Appearance

Am I doing something wrong here?

Brings up the Display Properties Window -> Appearance Tab

Nothing is available for me to change. :-(

Then your uxtheme.dll isn't patched. Try again with Replacer.

Ok, you've been a great help already. So when I follow the instructions for replacer on the first page.

When I get to the step where I drag the original file from the System32 directory to replacer then press enter. The system asks me what to open the file with.

So I select Open With but I'm not sure what to choose now...

I'm sorry I am a new to customizing XP and asking silly questions.

Any idea if a universal uxthmeme.dll patcher has been released by flyakite yet? Will it ever be released?

Hi, I followed the steps one by one. First of all, windows didn't pop up any error message
then when i restarted windows crushed and restarted again normally without a problem,
i tried to apply a new theme, but it doesn't work :(
when I checked uxtheme on system32, i found that it is the same (the patched one)
what should i do please?
thanks

Hey
What if you don't have a dllcache folder in the system 32 folder and the ux theme files only appear in the system 32 folder itself? Should I just delete those files? If not, what should I do?
(A screenshot is shown to demonstrate the problem)

dllcache folder is still there. Type C:\Windows\System32\dllcache in addressbar and hit enter.

Hey just quickly...
have pasted the rar file into the SYSTEM32 file but no pop-up with windows file protection has come up. Should I give the second method a go, otherwise is there a step I've missed?

You need to extract the rar file with WinRAR and paste the dll file into the SYSTEM32 dir.
