Two months ago a Chinese website posted screenshots and a video reported to be the early Milestone 1 build of the next client version of Windows codenamed '7'. The screenshots are almost identical to Windows Vista with minor changes.

Now we have a complete gallery of Windows 7 Build 6519 Screenshots. Paul Thurrott installed it initially in just a virtual machine and took hundreds of shots, and that's what you're looking at here. Essentially, Windows 7 build 6519--dating back to December 2007--is just a slightly enhanced version of Windows Vista. My guess--and at this point, it's just a guess--is that things will change more significantly over time. But even in this early build, a number of interesting developments emerge. I'll have more to say about that in the days ahead. For now, enjoy this first screenshot gallery. It won't be the last.

This is the first milestone, not the final version.

The early version of Vista looked like a slight skinned XP. So why not.

Yeah, except one difference that I notice is the absence of the "quick links" (Pictures, Computer, Documents, etc.). Maybe it's removed for good, or maybe just turned off by the user. :)

haha wow, how about you go and look up some early vista screenies.
i hope they only have 2 versions of windows 7 cuz im tired of 5 or 6 versions which is way too much for a simple customer to choose just one.

Well, there was a discussion about Windows 7, that Microsoft plans t bring out a basic Windows, that can do almost nothing, then you have to buy an upgrade for Media Stuff, for Gaming etc.

Well, then you have to spend about as much for a acceptable OS than for Vista Ultimate

When people make software, the first "beta/milestone" release doesn't focus on looks, it focuses on improved security. Look at Firefox, the interface in the UI didn't change with the first beta; same with Internet Explorer. Give it some time and I'm sure after they played around with security to enhance it, they'll start working on a new GUI.
