Update: Here's the new benchmarking report:
Windows Vista SP1 vs. XP SP3 - Gaming Performance

The single-GPU GeForce 8800 GTX experienced gains in games like Call of Duty 4 and Oblivion when we compared Windows Vista to Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 installed. Performance stayed mostly flat in other games. Pairing up two 8800 GTXs for an SLI setup yielded similar results. When we compare Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 to Windows XP SP2, the GeForce 8800 GTX kept up in Call of Duty 4 and BioShock. Vista with SP1 actually took the lead in Oblivion, but it's hard to ignore XP's victories in Crysis and Team Fortress 2. SLI performance was decidedly better under Windows XP than Windows Vista with and without SP1 in almost all of the tests.

Yeah, only for those who use their Computers primarily for Gaming....not for people who demand productivity & performance!
Come on...if you want to play such advanced games...go for Gaming Consoles...and moreover, newer games require/[will require] DirectX 10, both for hardware & software...so Vista is the future.

To all that say XP Rocks: youre all passing one fact over...

Vista uses DX10 (better gfx)
and XP uses DX9!

no shit xp will have better results, the graphical quality is less and therefore the cards arent put under as must stress...

but w/e i moved on from XP a while back and ill never rever to that... its like going back in time... never.

Buddy, we're talking about hardware for DirectX 10, not the end-user runtime or API set...get your basics right.
DirectX 10 Hardware Will Fully Utilize Itself Only Under Windows Vista...

The current driver model on the Windows XP is the limitation. One of the key points of Direct X 10 is the ability to have more independent objects and the current driver model on Windows XP simply won't be able to deal with it.

So anyone who plans to buy Direct X 10 hardware and plans to use its full potential will have to get Vista as well.

Is this with AERO enabled or turned off and using classic? I've found that by disableing DWM all together will get even better results that running with DWM on.

I remember when I used to use Windows 98 for playing games because XP was slow as hell, but I upgraded to XP because of DirectX 9.c. The case is same with Vista right now. You all will have to switch to Vista or Windows 7 for playing games with DirectX 10.1 :)

Almost all the games releasing this year will support DirectX 10.

You won't see any visual difference between DX9 and DX10 in the current generation games, but some games like Assassin's Creed uses the shader model 4 so that performance gains are realistic in DierctX 10 under Vista.
