The goal of the preview version is to evaluate the variety of hardware configurations out there running Windows Vista in order to see how well different types of Dreams run. The three included Dreams were especially chosen to check out 3 very different types of capabilities.
Stardock expects to release DeskScapes 2.0 later this month in time for Object Desktop 2008.

Well, if the final product removes this limitation, then why does it say "buy this product" rather than "this is only a preview"?

i made a app in VB that will slap a movie as your wallpaper, it you can even choose a movie to be looped infinite, and it never even took up more than a few megs of memory.
i actually dont like how stardock feet the need to wrap a movie in to it's own .dream format, it is like they made a special kind of zip file container for the movie, and wont tell anyone about how to unzip the movie and access it with out them having tthe app installed anyway.

The .dream format has several advantages. One of them being the author gets credit for their work, and support for dynamic .dreams which aren't possible with simple .wmv files.

The decision on what the final free product will include, or not include, hasn't been made yet. There will be a free limited version, and the premium version which is included with Object Desktop.

No offense to you Island Dog I'm sure you are well informed on the matter but its obvious to see which outweighs the other.

The IRC staff seemed to know what they were talking about when I asked them, but I'll take your word for it.

I do work for Stardock, and that is not a secret.
The DreamScene hack is not even comparable to DeskScapes, as it's a hack and with every Windows Update (the same with Vista .msstyles) you risk running into problems. A simple .wmv file will not get you dynamic functions, and the other abilities DeskScapes has.
