Jeff DaVos, one of the many Windows Vista SP1 beta program leaders, has graciously confirmed that Windows Vista SP1 build 18000, otherwise known as Release Candidate Refresh 2, and the build which was Released to Manufacturing (RTM) on Monday are indeed one of the same.

Windows Vista SP1 build 18000 is indeed the RTM build. We were hoping build 18000 we released to you (WU only) was the final build and as it happens we didn’t have to break the glass, the build didn’t change at all from the time we released it to you and our final sign-off on Monday morning this week.”, Jeff says. “What you got is what we’re all running our Vista machines here internally - we definitely RTM’d

There has been a 'registry hack' going around for a few days now to enable the option to download SP1 via Windows Update. This 'hack' is actually straight from Microsoft, which was given to beta testers on Connect January 23rd.

This is big news... But I think that I will wait until its officially out.... ya never know what could go wrong or what they are keeping under the hood...

i got mine...it was awesome! feel the speed increase!

to test it i copied 4 gb files to another xp pc (network) the speed was around 6mb after sp1 same files copied at 12 to 11 mb speed...not alot but hey iits double

also i have disable UAC so really didn't notice any different in that..explorer ussage is same no difference....

overall ram usage went down...

lets c what else...fast boot up n fast shutdown

I have a question! Will installing SP1 affect the use of custom themes in Vista? ..will I be able to use custom themes after installing it without waiting for a new patch to come out?

dont no about cracks..i bought mine ultimate so dont no but they say the craks wont work..but someone i heard one of the cracks bout ssome bios manufactor crack still works

He is right. I read on Biplab Paul's Technet blog that the Windows Version after SP1 would be "6.0.6001.18000"

Downloaded it last night (it took forever even though it was only 80 Mb in size) and installed it this morning (the installation took about 30 minutes even though I have a 1.73 Pentium M Processor and 512 Mb of RAM)
So anyway it is running really smoothly, very satisfied .. and another good thing, Vista is still activated

I had the same problem but I tried the hack again and it worked!
