365 days and 100 million licenses later, enthusiasm for a safe, reliable and engaging Windows Vista experience is high.

Since the worldwide release of Windows Vista one year ago today, people are doing more and getting more out of their Windows experience. From pictures and videos, to games and family safety settings, users are finding out that they can do more with Windows Vista.

We commissioned independent studies from IPSos and NPD to explore the attitudes of users about the operating system not only in the U.S., but also in China, France, Germany, Japan, and the UK. According to NDP, 70 percent of these users say it's an improvement over their previous operating system.

Windows Vista is the first operating system to build in parental controls. And they sure have changed things in the Charney household. For my ten-year-old, Ruby, they've helped make sure that her browsing habits are safe. Parental controls have also removed the argument about when she has to stop using the PC because after a certain hour, she simply can't log on. She participated in that discussion and agreed to the rules, and now we don't have to have that debate every night.

We've worked diligently with industry partners to increase the number of Windows Vista-compatible applications and devices, while also building support for them. While we were happy with what we launched with, we also built the system to update seamlessly with the new technology that has been and will be added every day.
Today, Windows Vista supports over 43,000 hardware products, almost doubling the 23,000 thousand at launch.

We pay a lot of attention to and continually work not only on the performance of Windows Vista but also on people's experience of performance. We get data from people who file bugs - Microsoft tech support, our OEM partners - and we pay attention to press, bloggers and enthusiasts’ web sites.

Microsoft has invested heavily in security improvements for products for about six years now, and we're seeing the results of that commitment in Windows Vista. I think it's fair to say that Windows Vista is proving to be the most secure version of Windows to date.
There are many areas of progress, but I'd like to point to three: the ability to run as a standard user, a set of Internet Explorer capabilities that help protect us from outside threats - the Phishing Filter and improved authentication of secure transactions with Extended Validation SSL - and the efforts of Windows Defender to clean spyware and other potentially unwanted software.

Windows Vista is the first operating system we’ve built with gamers and gaming in mind. Hardcore gamers have responded with more than ten million of them around the world already running Windows Vista
For these gamers, we created a whole new graphics technology and engine in Windows Vista—DirectX 10. A new generation of games is being developed to take advantage of the capabilities of the DirectX 10 compatible graphics cards and Windows Vista, and it’s exciting to see what kind of great experiences this is creating for gamers.

We look forward to providing more exciting experiences for Windows Vista users in the coming year.

I am from India and working in an Organization where more than 70,000 pcs are running daily on Microsoft applications. And yet no one complains ! Even we tried to use some Linux os for our networking servers which only Solaris kept the level. Rest of the machines are still runnning and will run on windows only. We have not faced any security threat yet, coz our team (TAR) testing analyzing and recommend or reject still want MS windows as Main OS. now we are slowly upgrading to Vista and any way damn sure that It will rule. It is a sad fact that we have to getrid of from Xp but withy changing the world kept ur self change is the best option

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO VISTA. WE ARE WITH YOU. WE CANNOT SEE ANY OTHER OS CONQUER THE WORLD FOR NEXT 20 YEARS. NOT ANY APPLE, LINUX, UNIX AND BBBBBBB

What the f**k is a BBBBBBB? you studdering or something?
whoa, can we say Microsoft Fanboy?

dont know who your trying to kid. get with the program or GTFO.

Vista is only liked by new adopters, if any old PC user likes Vista, then they have been lobotomized by it's shiny (and ugly) UI.

I have given Vista a true try 3 times.
all 3 times, it has crached within a matter of hours normally.
Then i did apple's OS X on the exact same machine.
lagged just a bit due to SSE3 emulation, but for three weeks, it never crashed.
Then got on to Linux, and have had it as my desktop for over two YEARS now, with only 5 reboots, due to bad weather.

yeah, let's see Windows go for 2 years with out a crash, soft reset or anything what so ever.

yeah, you cant say that. so STFU and Go Home.

Vista : Microsoft's PoS Trash that was coded by 1000 Drunken monkeys.

Have had (build) several pc's, used Win98se untill i had to make the (NT) switch to xp...
Altough Vista ran fine on my old computer (p4 3.0 HT)
i recently builded my new computer (core 2 duo - 2,66)
I also have a new notebook (celeron m 1.7)
(got it for free with a mobile phone sub :) ) and that one also runs Vista...

On all Vista runs very stable and fast, i'm not all that pleased with the looks (visual style)
but then i had that with all previous windows is used...
(3.11 was my 1st windows - made a menu / launcher for it back then with the help of my father :D )...

Anyways,.. i just wanted to say that i disagree with the negative comments about Vista
and the "ugly ui " ;), that's a matter of taste... in my opinion Luna is even worse....
In my experience Vista runs very stable and fast
i can use all the software i used before (or do a free update).

(Y) :punk: :windows:

Oh and...

Then got on to Linux, and have had it as my desktop for over two YEARS now, with only 5 reboots, due to bad weather.

:fun: Hooray for you!
I always shutdown my computer when i'm done with it...
why make my power usage bill higher then needed?....

Linux is great, i totally agree... but not normal / basic user friendly... atleast not as friendly as Microsoft Windows is.....

you know solo, just because you have a problem, doesnt mean you need to go around and start cursing, it only shows that youre arrogant, ignorant and have no respect whatsoever for others, also makes you look uneducated as all hell.

maybe YOU should join the program, bashing OS's or anything else can be done without cursing... if you cant see that well the you need to seriously grow up.

in you words "get with the program or GTFO"

so let me get this straight, you installed vista, then mac os, then linux and then you ran linux for over 2 years without crashing, (with only 5 reboots; unless your running a server, thats a waste of electricity and bad for the environment :) ), so.... my point is, you installed vista over a year before it was released?

BTW, i've been using PC's since DOS 5.0 (early nineties, simplier times), i've used windows 3.1, 3.11, 95, NT, 98, 98 SE, 2000, ME, XP, Linux (various versions over the years)and I use vista everyday for my home pc with no problems and I like it. Use XP for work though, but thats because I couldn't be bothered upgrading...

Btw, a normal personal computer can never get such an uptime, youve got to be kidding me..... The best servers even dont get that uptime, and if it did, companies would pay a hell of a lot of money for it..... 5 reboots. sure

Nice joke! 5 reboots in 5 years. Yeah! I remember last time I rebooted my system was in 2001 when I upgraded it from Windows 98 to Windows XP. My last reboot was some time around February when I upgraded from XP to Vista

Now, no joke; I have ran Windows XP Professional SP2 for as long as 6 months and 13 days without a reboot. We were hit by a hurricane and my backup ran out of power. iT may not be a record but it is a good average :)

"Windows Vista is the first operating system to have parental controls built in."

Mac OS X has had this for years. God.

Oh, and happy birthday Vista, keep on crashing in the good ol' times.

Dear before I say anything you must go through the replies and reviews you received. It is pathetic that you are not yet grown up and still a moderator of this forum. If u get teased by the BBBBBBBs then I am sorry. Its counted as Just BBBBBBs only means Bee (Any of numerous hairy-bodied insects including social and solitary species) ;)

About Vista, that is my personal opinion and not intend to hurt anyone. I personaly loved the UI of vista other than anyother OS available now in the market. If u are in doubt u can search for the down load rate of a XP 2 vista, or any other transformation pack to vista including this forum.

If u still feeling any burning sensation get out from this virtual world and I can show u the real hell otherwise run away brother[u]

I LOVE MY OS VISTA AND XP . WHAT IS REBOOT ANYWAY ? I ONLY EXPERIMENT IT WHENEVER I MADE ANY NEW INSTALATION. IT IS A 100 % CERTAIN THAT IN OUR WORLD WE ARE VERY LESS OR NOT ALL INTERESTED ABOUT OTHER OSs HU HU HUU
