Digitimes.com runs a story about DRAM supplies getting short this year. He mentions Vista SP1 might be a trigger for more DRAM demand:

"Nanya's Pai said that in 2007 major PC OEMs had limited amounts to spend on DRAM because of rising panel and battery prices.

He expects the PC market to have a drop in sales in the first quarter, which will be deeper than the ones in previous years because of strong shipments by PC OEMs to retail channels in the fourth quarter.

But the PC market will rebound in the second quarter, he said. The launch of an updated version of Microsoft Vista on February 15, if its prices do not go up too much compared to its previous version, may help boost DRAM sales, Pai added."

Update: PCWorld also just published a news that the first service pack for Windows Vista could be out as early as Feb. 15, according to sources close to Microsoft.

"Microsoft has said the highly anticipated service pack would be out in the first quarter of this year, but some say it could be available in the next few weeks, more than a month before the quarter ends on March 31"

I am updated my Vista ultimate with all KBs and other updates available in MS update. Is it necessary for me to purchase or download the SP1 ? If yes what are pros and cons of both (Sticking with MS upgrade or Buying SP1) ?

Well SP1 will be just like any other update (though the most important one) downloaded through Windows Update in Windows Vista (Any Version). When it will be out, just go to Windows Update, check for new updates and download it, it's free :)
It will contain all previous updates released from Microsoft, adding to that new features and fixes.

Check here http://en.wikipedia....#Service_Pack_1 for more info about Windows Vista SP1.
