I've been trying to figure out how to get logitech vx revolution working on my vista laptop. Every time I plug in the usb reciever it couldn't find the driver to install. I know the usb ports work just fine because other mice work. Also, the mouse works fine in Ubuntu and my desktop.

Can I copy the driver from the desktop over to the laptop? if so, where can I find this file in Windows?

note: laptop (FJ180P) originally came with Windows XP. I wiped the whole HDD clean and install a fresh copy of vista.

i had the same problem. i bought logitech/mouse combo and wouldnt connect. i was using ultimate. ended up reinstalling windows.

Does reinstalling it work? Man, I don't look forward to starting from the beginning. What's worse is it installed fine in any other systems.

Anyone know if I uninstall every USB controllers and devices, that it will help reset everything? I mean, that kinda like reinstalling Windows?

Yeah I tried that already. All I get is the menu with the version from installing setpoint 4.24. The mouse should work even without the software. How do I get the USB controller back to when it was first installed. Maybe then it will recognize my mouse.

C:/Windows/System32/DriverStore

search for drivers in there and watch it work, my usb headset didn't work, searched in there and worked perfectly (btw, on vista, you practically need setpoint if the mouse is NOT always connected)

I went into device manager, and right-click on the VX, labeled "usb receiver" under "other devices" and chose update driver. I pointed it to c:/windows/sys32/driverstore, and it searched a little then spitted back out with "windows found driver but an encountered an error while installing........USB composite device....system cannot find file specified". I have installed the hotfix (kb940199) for this, but still a no go.


Can I uninstall all these and reinstall them? Will this help you think?

I have Vista Ultimate, and a Logitech vx nano USB mouse. And for some reason I've had problems installing USB devices using the device's installation program. The only way I've managed to get things to work is to manually install everything (by updating the device driver from the device manager). The catch is to run the install program first (setpoint in this case) and let Vista attempt to install automatically. After it fails, then just point the installer to c:\windows\system32 for any files that Vista cannot locate on its own. I have managed to install a mouse, jump drive, and external drive following this method. I don't have a clue why Vista seemingly copies the driver files from an installation/setup program into the win\sys32 but then can't find them to complete the installation.

it really doesnt make sense... this same thing happened with my logitech G7 laser mouse, all i did was reinstall setpoint and then send the "foun new hardware, driver locale thing" to driverstore (as last post <mine>) but then i just moved on to the razer lachesis

reinstalling windows isnt worth it... thats a bit extreme, and may not even fix your problem... try contacting logitech customer support perhaps they have a manual fix to your annoying problem

oh and i forgot to mention before, the method i used was with vista ultimate 64 bit... therefore my method could be way off

Yeah, I don't understand either because every other computers recognized it just fine. I'm starting to think it is my laptop. And yeah...your vista ultimate 64 might be a little different than my 32-bit version.

do you have ultimate? if so that is the problem. there have been alot of reports where vista doesnt install the drivers. i went back to home premium(got it for free) and it worked

Un-freaking-believable. It works!! Followed the instructions and pointed to C:/windows/system32, and ca-ching!!! Thanks again proenca, you've save me from reinstalling Windows.
