Oh dear! It seems there are no allies at C|Net when it comes to Windows Vista, I can only imagine that their IT policy is still firmly seated with XP on all their clients (except of course some very poor test machines). Anyways a bright spark at C|Net HQ has clocked Vista in at Nr 10 on Top ten terrible tech products, with the Sony Rootkit fiasco just ahead of Vista at Nr 9. The list even includes the Sinclair C5 as the worst tech product, will Sir Clive ever be forgiven for that? Do our active members even know what a C5 is?

Heres what C|Net have to say about Vista: Any operating system that provokes a campaign for its predecessor's reintroduction deserves to be classed as terrible technology. Any operating system that quietly has a downgrade-to-previous-edition option introduced for PC makers deserves to be classed as terrible technology. Any operating system that takes six years of development but is instantly hated by hordes of PC professionals and enthusiasts deserves to be classed as terrible technology.

Windows Vista conforms to all of the above. Its incompatibility with hardware, its obsessive requirement of human interaction to clear security dialogue box warnings and its abusive use of hated DRM, not to mention its general pointlessness as an upgrade, are just some examples of why this expensive operating system earns the final place in our terrible tech list.

I do not think Vista is that bad. I know it requires a lot of juice to run but some software companies do not want to move to Vista because they need to re-write their code. A lot of companies write software so it works fast for example SQL products. Everyone know that using the sa account is bad and you should use the windows integrated option yet most companies do not write the software to do that...

Vista is a POS, hell, WinME was better than Vista.
Downgrade to XP with your Vista Machine and everything will be good again. Have to have the whole "Aero" look? Use Windowblinds, or hell, Go to Linux and use CompizFusion.

I agree with orcus. Sooner or later Vista will be the most used OS.

But I still prefer Mac OS X Leopard.

Apple r0x

Meh I like Vista a lot more than XP. For me XP has caused me more than a billion problems, but when I used Vista for 2 months I never had a problem.

I agree with Freka. Vista isn't the best, but it's better than XP at least.

No not really. I use my computer to surf the internet and that is about it and for that I found Vista to be much better and safer because on XP I have had to reset my PC because so many times because of viruses and as soon as I switch back from Vista to XP (just because my computer is slow) I had a problem with XP...
That is my experience and I know I am not the only one.

Hmm....

From what I've experienced Vista is pretty bad as with a newer PC. Which I had to get because my other one FRIED!!!!! So far, everything is running perfect :) I have been able to fully test it after a period of time because I just got the PC, but so far it runs better than XP with newer and improved hardware. MY SOUND WORKS GREAT!!!! HAHA NO MORE DELLy Computer with Creative back stabbing... let me quit before I say something bad and can't post anymore.

Awaiting Vista SP1

Apple r0x?

Laguna, you lost all credibility as soon as I seen r0x. An Apple fan boy trying to sound all hacker and gamer like? What a joke.

Anyways,

Anyone who listens to C|net is a moron, period. They publish some of the most bogus articles. Frankly they got about as much credibility as our hacker apple fan boy here, Laguna.

XP sucks and swallows, then spites it back out and licks it back all up. It's ugly, prone to bit-rot, insecure, buggy - it looks like something made by Fisher-Price.

Since I moved to Vista, not a virus or anything bad. Runs like a champ and stays strong. Looks neat and has very small features that make it all the more worth it.

Vista is a hog on resources, sure - if you find this a problem then upgrade that shit box you call a computer to something more up to date. Then it runs just fine.

Plus, updating Vista on dial up is way way easier and faster! It takes years on XP. Don't gimme the 'xp has more updates then vista you dipshit' line, because it takes 30 minutes longer for the same file size to download in XP then it does in Vista - in windows update.

So what if it has some DRM stuff, DRM is just fancy for stopping idiots from doing things that they should be allowed to do. Any normal user with brains walks through the DRM like it's not even there.

Overall Vista = Better then XP.

Relax... it's c|net UK. But they listed Tamagotchi as one of the worst! Those Brits! The way they write those blogs, I wonder if the bloggers have actually any technological experience!!

Yet they spoke the hard truth on Vista. Too hard to be reasonable. Half of it was bull, I tell ya.

No, it's becuase Vista is a lot more stable (10 months and no BSoD as compared to the 3 I got in the year and a half of using XP), Vista is more organized than XP, it's easier to use, complete with faster searching, most importantly, better and/or enhanced security features (My XP was attacked almost everytime I was online and becuase of that, was nervous using it at all. Even though annoying as hell, I feel better with UAC running), and overall has a better look and feel than XP does. While it still may have it's various kinks, Vista works better for me than XP ever did. I'm not ashamed of, or, regretting buying Vista at all. I'm just glad i didn't go for Ultimate *Whistles.....*.

I can understand if you hate Vista, Not everyone is going to like it.... The same goes for Leopard and Ubuntu, everyone has their preferences. But in all honesty, Kairon, that attack was uncalled for.........

PS: I gotta ask, who is the idiot that put the Sony rootkit fiasco at number 9? That should be at number 1..........
