What do you call the feature of many new multi-player server-type games that lets you type in text and post it for other players to see?

The text message feature is inbuilt in all the multilayer (old or new) games.

I'm writing a paper, and I mention that feature. I just wondered if there was an official term.The text message feature is inbuilt in all the multilayer (old or new) games.
