eyeOS is an Open Source Platform designed to hold a wide variety of Web Applications over it. eyeOS was thought as a new definition of Operating System, where everything inside it can be accessed from everywhere in a Network. All you need to do is to login into your eyeOS server with a normal Internet Browser, and access your personal desktop, with your applications, documents, music, movies... just like you left it last time.

EyeOS 1.2 includes a bunch of new features and applications needed by eyeOS to be really useful for the every day use.

ARGH! Waste Of TIME! It is NOT an OS then!!!!!!!
If you have to have an internet browser to get to it, then your basically using another OS with a web browser to Access a WEB PAGE that is Mocked up like an OS!

WHY THE f**k DO PEOPLE PULL STUPID SHIT LIKE THIS? OS MEANS IT CAN BOOT UP AND RUN ON A COMPUTER ON A LOW LEVEL AND HAS DIRECT ACCESS TO BASE I/O LOADS AND PROTOCOL.

While this Is platform independent, it CANNOT boot up on to your PC like how other Oses can do, THEREFORE it IS NOT A OS.

it is at best a Simulated Desktop Environment.

THESE f**kING ASS HATS NEED TO STOP MAKING CLEVER WEB PAGES THAT LOOK LIKE THE REAL THING AND LEARN A GODDAMN REAL LANGUAGE AND ACTUALLY MAKE THE REAL THING!
f**k THIS AJAX SHIT, LEARN C++ DAMN IT, OR HELL, EVEN VISUAL BASIC.

STOP POSTING THIS f**kING GARBAGE.

I dont see the use of this either. waste of time in my eyes if you need an operating system to run this web based OS on a webrowser

the only way this can be usefull is if you can have your own space on this web based OS. and somehow have a webrowser that doesnt need any operating system to run that works on a bootable USB. so you could use it everywhere.

Exactly!

this is a clever ploy, yes, bt it is not an OS.

hell, if this thing could boot off of PXE then i might think of it like that... but it cant!

Yes, this is a portal. But I quite like this concept. Many a times I have to use internet cafes where these portals give me a feeling of my own personalized desktop, which I can access from anywhere.

EyeOS looks the best amongst all these self called webOS (Y)

Calm down people. EyeOS is ok but not the best. Desktoptwo is the only one I will call an Online OS. These Online OSes are very useful depending on the person. Desktoptwo to me is the only one stepping it up to become an really great Online OS.

Personally, I think its is a great idea. One of the great things about Linux is that I can use my home folder from anywhere on my network or SSH into it. Sometimes this is not always available as I move from computer to computer at different locations. It's nice to have a customizeable GUI that I can access anywhere without having to reboot. Yes a bootable Linux OS would be prefered for me, I love SLAX, but not always possible as many times I'm on a domain of which I don't have free access. I think it's a great idea that has its benefits (More than Google Docs? I don't know yet).

As for not being an OS? I think that this term should be looked at in and of itself. It's obvious that a Webbased OS is not going to have Low Level access to the hardware, but it is an operating system if you are using it for your operation. It's giving you access to the hardware on whatever server it is and running those apps. If I SSH from my Redhat at work to my Ubuntu at home, I often say I'm running my Home OS. Is this not true? It's not giving me lowlevel access to my desktop sitting in front of me but to some desktop yes. And I don't think you can really argue that Ubuntu isn't an OS. If secure shells let you run an OS, what's the difference with a VNC server? That lets you access your remote computer's OS and the Webbased OS is a similar idea.

It has a niche and it's there to fill it. Props to them for the innovation.

I'm not against any web app. I like all of them especially this EyeOS. :)
