Iconfinder lets you search for all sorts of icons just like you'd search for any other web content. All the icons are in PNG-format. The benefit of PNG-images is the alpha-channel, meaning that pixels can be transparent.

You can use them directly on dock or convert to .ico with AveIconifier 2

No good for me...only displays icons up to 128px. I need 'em at 256px so I can convert them to Vista format.
