Here are the links to visual styles, skins and all the stuff, by installing them you can make your Windows XP look like Ubuntu Linux. Just like Ubuntu itself, all programs required are freeware, except WinRAR.

Visual Style, 2nd, 3rd
Styler Toolbar
Wallpaper
Background, 2nd
Cursor
Icontweaker
Bootskin, 2nd
Logon Screen, 2nd, 3rd
Firefox Human theme
Firefox Tango theme
Thunderbird Tango theme
WinRAR
3D Desktop
Tango eMule Skin
Tango Patcher
Blue Tango icons

There existed an old thread regarding UbuntuXP. May be you could find something useful from there too.

If you know some more Ubuntu skins for Windows, post here please.

Ubuntu is free anyway. Why not just get Ubuntu if you're going to go through all that trouble just to make it LOOK like Ubuntu. But I guess some people want to keep the way their Windows works and just have an Ubuntu look, eh?

Actually, you don't require WinRAR. You can use 7-zip instead.

Thanks for those useful and ready links! If partitioning wasn't giving me such a hassle, then I wouldn't need this guide.

I'm sorry but Windows won't ever be linux. lol You can probably make it Vista, because it ain't much right now, but linux it will never be. Plus! Linux is free and very easy to setup. Why try to make Windows into Linux? There transitions are really becoming pathetic and showing Windows' true colors. Everything I see is turn Windows into Linux or Mac. If it gets to a point when you have to make another OS look like another, maybe it's time to switch OSes.

But who really switches OSes because of appearance? The only reason I don't set my Vista DVD on fire and fling it out the Windows is because Linux is unstable (And some other reasons...). After Googling for hours, it turns out some of my hardware on my main machine is problematic with Linux. Heck, I'm having a hard time setting up internet in another computer which runs Linux! As of now, I'll stick with Windows Vista, which is synonymous to compatibility, stability, and ease of use.

One thing I found out about Linux Ubuntu is that it's best to upgrade to a new distribution than to install it fresh. I recently just installed 7.04 fresh from a CD and nothing worked (DVD Player, All-In-One Printer,...). As soon as I deleted Ubuntu (Which made me mad because I've done a lot of customizations) and reinstalled 6.10 and upgrade all the way back to 7.04 everything is working fine. So, if you are going to try the newest Ubuntu, I personally would recommend you upgrade to it instead of installing it fresh from an online CD. If you have ordered the CDs than that might be different. Because I don't know what all they give you. But I'm not the kind of person that like to wait for things if I know I can get it quicker and right some other way.

ShamusHand,
I not saying change OSes only because of the appearence. I'm saying if you are going change the appearence, add new apps to try to make it look and do what another OS does for FREE. Then just install the other OS. You can easily install and uninstall Ubuntu if you don't want it. You can never make Windows like Ubuntu with any app. Period.

Agreed. I've gotten to used to it to switch now. I personally love Linux, but I don't find it suitable for a main machine. But then again, it's all a matter of opinion. As for the upgrade, I had the same issue - when I installed Feisty fresh, my PS2 mouse stopped working, along with my screen resolution being 800x600, and not changing when I selected 1024x768. But when I upgrade from Edgy to Feisty, I guess all the drivers where carried along, as everything worked. But, since feisty was a bit sluggish on my machine, I reinstalled Edgy. And today I almost switched to openSUSE because of my wireless, but as soon I figured it wasn't OS related, I switched back to Edgy. :)

I think that's the key. Some may like the look of Ubuntu, but like the programs/games that won't work with Linux (primarily games), and want their one OS.

Get the real thing.
The only reason I keep dual booting is that Adobe CS2 already runs slow because of my poor hardware so emulation does not even worth considering.
But honestly, if my grandma would buy a computer I would install Linux on day one. :D

Very nice, but instead of the hassle of installing all of this to make my windows look like Ubuntu I am going to just stick with the dual boot for now and run Windows when I need too and Ubuntu whenever else. ;)

Thanks for the guide though!
