i know this is a windows site but i have messing with unbuntu
on my dell dimension c521
i am running it off of a disc just to test it out
and i am liking it very much

but only one problem i have found so far
i have 6 usb ports on the computer and my keyboard and mouse are both usb (they came with the computer)

now on to my problem
when i have my keyboard and mouse plugged into the onboard usb ports the keyboard and mouse will not work
but if i take a usb hub (three ports) and plug it in to one of the usb ports on the computer the mouse and keyboard with work

now i know the usb ports work on the computer and Unbuntu can see them because i have an external hard drive on one of the usb ports and it sees it
i can open it and view the files

so i was thinking plug the usb mouse or keyboard in the usb port on the computer that the hard drive is using and still they will not work
only threw the usb hub which i don't want to use because than everytime i log into windows xp mce 2005 or vista i have to move them to where they were connected on the computer and i want to one day install linux on to the computer but if i can't get the keyboard and the mouse to work off of the computer (with out the usb hub) than i might not install ubuntu

any help with this would make my day great

thanks

oh and on top of that what is the best linux os out there
i want the cool 3d desktop and what not and plus its time for me to learn linux and i want the one that is most user friendly
thanks

I personally like Fedora Core 6, it makes using XGL and Compiz really easy.
Try doing from the terminal lsusb, it should report all of the usb ports avalable on your system

don't forget if you are running of a live cd they may not have included all the drivers needed. though it should work if they work in other ports :s

lareeth is right, they only used the common drivers in the live cd, the ubuntu install does install more drivers that are .Deb or even .tar.bz 'ed on the cd.
