...
Messenger: in case you use MSN messenger don't desactivate this
...

This service has nothing to do or link with MSN Messenger!!!!!! Is just a service to send and Alerter Service messages between clients and servers.

This is a complete section of services can you disable on Windows:

Windows Vista & XP Services Configurations by BlackViper

Ubuntu Intrepid if more faster than Vista but XP SP3 is faster than Intrepid.

Another vote for TuneUtilities 2008. B)

Control panel -> Administrative tools -> Services

From here desactivate the following services:

Help and Support
Messenger: in case you use MSN messenger don't desactivate this
Print Spooler: in case you use printer don't desactivate it
Server

Hi, your list is totally wrong... Here are just a few examples:
  • Should be manual so that if Windows help is needed, it can be started.
  • Messenger has nothing to do with Windows/MSN Messenger.
  • Print spooler is also for virtual printers (like print to file).
  • If you disable Server, why not also disable Workstation (LAN will be unavailable).
If your list is followed, Windows will not function as intended.

Ha..ha..sometimes we still need xp to run some old programs and games, also for other purposes and so on (Old hardwares etc). And Xp is still a very stable, worth, and reliable OS for that, since it's been proved for years. But honestly i agree/believe that Windows 7 is and will be better than both Xp and Vista :D Amen! (Edit) Since it's still beta OS i'll still keep it installed (to try) but also prefer either Xp or Vista as the main OS lol maybe at least till the Windows 7 RTM launched. And i'd still love to customize and enhance Xp always (it's the most customizable OS ever by far 4 dev, just for fun and so on since it's been proved for years before). even i'll still keep Xp installed at least on one of my older machines (until 2014? mmm... :P but hey it would still be supported by MS and some vendors) after having windows 7.

Finally May God bless Windows 7 but also long live Xp! It's just my personal opinion so peace everybody! :D

My way for Xp faster.
1. Del (not disable) Prefetch folder after along time (about one month).
2. Defragment all drive.
3. Using Tuneup > scan, defragment and fix error registry.
4. Turn off some program which is unecessary at startup.
5. Disable some services. (If you don't know about services, plz don't try it)
6. Restart computer
7. End :P

try Smart Defrag by Iobit before my PC was to sluggish this is the best defragmenter tool on earth against auslogics may be fast to defrag things but smart defrag has deep optimize and fast optimize option and the output much better:
